Innosummer project 4: Get a mobile connection to your virtual community

You are walking down the street in your new home town. You just read on an online game community forum that two of your gaming buddies are also out and about. You don't know how they look like in real world, because you have 'met' them only in the virtual world. But your mobile phone recognizes their presence, and alerts you. How does the virtual mix with the reality? Later in the afternoon you are about to have a picnic with your workmates. However, one of you will have to stay at the office. How could she join your picnic virtually and participate in the activities?


Project goals:

  • Create user stories or user scenarios on a mobile social community and virtual world.

  • Create ideas and/or a concept on storytelling and sharing in Mixed Reality.


Team size

2-5 persons


Time period

The project constitutes full-time work for the project team between 18.5. - 31.8.2009.


Interaction between stakeholder and project team

The work will mainly be done at the Demola 'office' in Tampere, Finlayson. There will be regular weekly meetings with the company partner and the team members. There will also be other forms of communication and guidance available to the team. The team will report the work by writing a team blog on the Demola web service.


Support (supervision & financial)

Demola staff will supervise the reports and by the end of each month the team will also write a one page summary of the reported project actions, methods used, and results.

2nd last week: Project 4

Running on final week, its always a bit hurry and worry during last week of project. Though we are doing good and are on time, the concern is on finalizing the whole thing up. Previous week we had second session of video shooting and we almost completed the edition of the first video shoot. The preparation of presentation and documents are the tasks we are generally concerned about.

Last week was totally different from any other week this summer. That´s because we concentrated our energy to another field of media: video production.

Fun filled two weeks : Project 4

The week started with the sketching schedule and task division for rest of the project, though the schedule looks very tight we are enjoying our task. As the end of project is approaching we have to hurry the things up and summarize what we have been doing since last 3 months. Oh! we are 3 months down, never realized, 3 months just went with a flash with a flashy environment in demola.

So fast, couldn't believe it. Well time doesn't stop and its time to look back at the week and calculate the progress. The biggest acheivement is finalizing the questionnaire, since it was pending since long long time, we finally got to conclusion about the questionaire. Which also helped us to concentrate on one more topic, which we nearly excluded from our concept.

The first thing that I have noticed is the change in demola website, well this is not linked with our story, anyways it looks same old demola webpage now. (good, I must compliment)

 We finally completed our four weeks of brainstorming and the results can be seen in numerous flip chart papers with lots of ideas - some great and some not that good. Either way, now we have a lot of material to work with and to narrow down to find the essential information.

We first started with a division of task in the sixth week of this project. Nevertheless, it was a small task for just a week to do research on MMOGs and also for preparation of the pitching session. On wednesday we did the pitching session of our project, which we felt was quiet successful and useful too. It was a good practice to sell the product, though the project is not yet over.

The week started with designing a presentation and a brouchure for the tuesdays Nokia Lab day. The idea was to show the Nokia people and professors what our projects are all about. Tuesday started out well; People were truly intersted in all of our projects and said that they are innovative and fresh.

We continued with editing the questions for the survey and it was finalized and uploaded in the web server so everybody can take part in it. we tried to do publicity about the survey so, we sent an email to our university's mailing list providing the link to the survey to collect more participants.

We´re on the right track

During our last Tuesday brainstorming, we decided to specify our project focus. From now on we´re going to concentrate on research, so that we know what we are dealing with and how we can make the most out of our project. We need to see the big picture.

Project 4's First week !!!

As an old saying "Human head cannot stop dreaming", well, to my concern I guess human brain would be suitable, whatever it might be, we were crazy high flying in our concepts about how the project could be made. As a regular first week of the project we were developing concepts about the project and other useful aspects.
