Local Buddy train keeps on going
Every software project has it's difficulties and team Local Buddy has had it's share too. So far nothing too disastrous has come up and we've managed get around the small issues we've experinced.
When you work with uncomplete tools and technologies it's quite predictable that there will be some issues. Team Local Buddy uses a prerelease of S60 Qt and things have gone supprisingly well. Of course some minor problems have arisen. One example was a situation where dialogs and touch screen functions didn't mix and we ended up using dialogs differently. The fix was simple but finding it took some time.
Thing that also slowed us down for a while was the Symbian digital signing and security scheme. Documentation of a Qt camera extension said that we need a capability which is only assigned to a known application publisher. And this joy would have cost 200$. After some digging in the web it turned out that this capability is actually not needed. Development made easy and simple, right?
The demo is looking good and some of the main funtions work already. We can add locations, edit them, take pictures and find attractions, etc. Rest of the team is still working on the outlook and some details of our demo. We are slowly starting to write down what services our concept needs so that people would actually use our fancy travel guide.
