Project 83: Meaningful birth data and use history for data

Background and motivation
Like astrology tells about people and creates forecasts based on their birth data, there could be birth data for virtual objects like folders, photos, avatars and basically whatever which is created with computer. Virtual objects could also have their use history visible, just like physical world objects have.

All contextual data available could be collected in the moment when the virtual object is created, as well as later when the object is used (e.g. accessed). There are good or bad places, times, weather, and such for creating virtual objects.
    - For example the folder which was created by Madonna in Venice and used by herself every day for her lyrics writing notes would look much different than the one created by your grandmother and given to you, and you have been using it together with your family for your holiday photos.

We propose the development of system that enables to collect, store and represent the birth data and evolution of a virtual object:
- over time and use (who created, when, under which circumstances);
- who has used it (e.g. male, female, kids, adults);
- how much it has been used;
- such information affects the appearance of the virtual object already in the moment of creation, but also affects its usage later

Project goal
Develop a prototype system to capture creation and use history of virtual objects (like files), and a visualization for that
    - Create a set of visualizations and have the project customer approve one for implementation
Arrange a user study (target: 10 participants, duration 2 weeks)

Desired student skills/competencies/team size
Visualization skills and good programming skills are essential in the project team
Ability to arrange a user study
System testing skills

Development tools, environments and standards
Appropriate development environment of client application (mobile phone or PC)
Graphics creation tool
Deliverables and time period
Finalized concept, demo and user evaluation report by end of April 2010

Presentation done!

We presented the project at University, only document submission and last meeting with Nokia supervisors (22.03.2010) left.

Project Completion!!

We have completed implimentation and presented the project at demola. we are going to present Project at University Tommarow!!

working in night::

Still working to complete the project in demola may be whole night tonight..

Sprint speed up

We are on a quite fast track compared to our previous progress pace. The team works more efficiently and the communication is more settle among the members.

The  usability tests are taking place as well and we will start concluding the development in less then a month, we hope.

2nd meeting progress

We are in the half way (ok it s %66) of the 2nd sprint and development is still a bt ad-hoc but since we have a skilful team it s improving steady and in schedule. We ve finally got 2 n900 s from demola and we want more! :) otherwise we may have to expand the duration of the user study and break into shorter periods and start it early as well.

Birthdata - flu outrage

Our client is satisfied by the 1st sprint progress but the 2nd sprint has started with problems. Half of the team is stuck at home, watching movies all day long and eating fruits now. As precautions, we hand out oranges and tagerines at the meetings :)

mid sprint

The 1st sprint is in the mid way and we are either in good shape and everything is fine (our mr.xp guys say so:) or we had picked too few items from the backlog. But safer the betteri guess.

Some tasks were not set with clearly identified outcomes and it is now hard to track people's progress. But this is also probably a common issue in the early stages.

Starting the iterations

After quite a lot of brainstorming and preparations we are finally starting with the first sprint. We found it really hard to make a backlog for a research project and the clients support and feedback helps us. During the first sprint our developers are creating the skeleton and the designers will think more into the icon visualization.
